My webhosting "history"
I had an old domain hosted with Mister.net but I gave up hosting with them because back then they offered only 2000mb hosting with no MySql for a fixed price. (They've since come a long way and improved!) Don't mistaken - I am all praises for Mister.net and will consider them if current free webhoster does not fullfill my requirements.
(BTW, my Posterous blog [freely-hosted] will always remain here cos I love the ability to blog via email, and it send to my Twitter account automatically so my followers in Twitter know when I have blogged about something wierd.)
I tried Zymic (post-to-host) but uploading files via FTP is a joke. So I self-deleted my account with them but not before praising them for their extensive Photoshop tutorials (in their forum).
Skynet...whatever I can't remember the full name - another Post2host. Committed a mistake of resetting all forum posts as and when they like. I didn't bother to request for free hosting with them.
I was also hosted with another webhoster who refunded me my US$15 (annual hosting) when they suspended my account. There was NO WARNING before suspension that I was overusing CPU resources. (How was I to know when I was overusing? I had asked what constituted overuse of cpu resources but was not given any explaination.) The US$15 refund did them good - I am not naming them here! lol
I was also hosted by Wiizdom (post-to-host). Was top poster & contributor (I made an ebook with their URL in it in the hope of promoting of their hosting service - so much for being "useful" there!) and I was one of the few people who donated to them. But a few things happened which made me left them:
1. My VIP (donor) title was stripped only after 4 months.
2. I had difficulty accessing forum so imagine I had no way to post to forum, which meant I was unable to keep my hosting.
3. They didn't allow forum members to post internal forum thread URLs even (in their shoutbox) which they have by now removed totally. No tagbox and no shoutbox anymore.
4. They resetted forum a couple of times in the past and that meant whatever posts made previously were all wiped out cleanly. (Many good forums only "delete" posts that are more than a year old. The best forums on the net keep past years' forum posts in archives.)
I feel Wiizdom is also not able to take truthful criticisms - their 24hours customer support service is a farce and not the truth. Once it took them 3 full days to reply me.
And there's also Trap17 (post to host). One of the moderators took offense when I suggested for him to switch back to Windows XP (he asked what to do cos he was using windows vista). I was surprised at his abrupt rudeness, cos why bother to ask if you didn't want opinions from other forum members? From then on, he searched for some of my 30+ posts and found 2 to have "pliagarised content" (just a few sentences I copied from some health sites). He was trying his best to make it difficult for me to attain the required credits to get free hosting. I checked some webhost review sites and found that they had several negative reviews as well, which included "rude forum moderators". I never return to Trap17 again although I've made a few net friends from there.
I tried many free webhosting sites...many either limited file types for uploading and had some kind of file size limit. Most were of little use to me since they offered less than 500mb of free hosting. Some offered 1 gig hosting but the bandwidth was pathetic. Well, beggers for free stuff can't choose!!
That's my webhosting adventures!
